new 383 not starting
new 383 not starting
the details of my build are in my sig.
I know I have fuel, as I had a fuel leak I just fixed, the fpr was leaking.
I just installed the engine these last few days. When I try and start it it sounds like the battery is dead........really laberous cranking. I hooked up a second battery, and it tried harder, but still had a hard time. It never fired up either.
Is it possible the stock lt1 starter cant handle the higher compression 383?
I have yet to check for spark.....

When I get back to the car tonight I am gonna see how hard it is to turn the engine over by hand, I know it was very smooth turning over before being bolted into the car.
Depending on how that goes I'll start pulling plugs to check the cylinders.
Also gonna check the thick ground wire by the starter and make sure its grounded well against the block.
Question, if my battery gauge shows 12volts with the water pump running, the battery should be good right?

well here is what I did:
1: the ground near the starter with wasn't connected.
I attached that to the block.
tried to start it again, still didn't do it.
2: connected a second battery. Before attempting to start with both I stuck a wrench on the balancer and turned the engine over. While hard to crank, it still turned over smoothly, proving that there wasn't fuel in the cylinders hydrolocking it.
attampted to start it again, no go, but it tries harder.
before giving up I took off the accessory belt and tried one last time.
SHAZAAM! it started, although barely.....it turned over so slowely that I didn't think it could, but it did
So now I am going to be recharging my battery........and figure out why it cant start.
How do I check for the voltage drop?

The car is starting just fine, but it wont idle.
I have to give it gas to keep it from dying. It sounds like it wants to idle around 950RPM.......any lower and it sounds ready to stall.
Also, it smells really rich on startup.....
I cant get my datalogue cable to connect using my laptop either.
