Cooling System...

In an effort to clean up the engine compartment and to shed some weight at the same time I am wanting to replace my radiator with a griffin and stand it up.

Ideally I want just the main inlet and main outlet. Then block everything else off. My issue is the "steam line" off the back of the heads. If I go with an off the shelf radiator it they're a couple hundred, I called Griffin and just for them to add the extar port for the steamline the price jumped to almost $450

The cra is a 94 and the steam vent goes to the radiator not the TB.

Any ideas?

I'm was looking at installing p/n 26241-x

You can just put a threaded nipple into the port on the back off each head and cross the line between the heads. That is what I run on my car.

You need the return line, not just a connection from one head to the other. That allows air and vapor bubbles to exit the back of both heads, instead of being trapped there.

The Griffin LT1 radiator has the same connection for the steam line. It ends up in the same place on all years, the 95-97 cars just divert the steam line to the throttle body before it then routes to the radiator connection. The stock radiator is supposed to have a vapor/liquid separator in the end tank, behind the connection, but I never took the stock radiator apart to verify.

The lines can be crossed from head to head with out issue. I know the purpose of the line. Once the system is bleed with a 160 stat. There is no need for the return.

I am going to try calling Griffin back. I did some more looking around it it looks like for some people Griffin only charged an $25-$35 to add the necessary nipple to the radiator I want.

Injuneer - I know the LT1 specific rad has that connection but I don't need any of the other ports which is why I am picking a smaller GM style radiator. I guess if they won't just add what I need then I'll keep the stocker and block off the unnecessary holes in the radiator.
