high speed question

high speed question

I have a stock 95 z and the other night i was out and i think i might have a problem but i dont know what it could be i was running 120 down the highway and my rpm were at 5100. i thought i should be able to at least get to 140 but i was redlined. if anyone could offer some help i would be grateful

Agreed.

Is your car M6 or an Auto? A signature would be helpful.

The rev limiter is set at 5,800 RPM, not 5,100. There is a speed limiter on cars that did not leave the factory with the Z-rated tires (RPO QLC). Might want to test it on a track, not on a public highway.

It is an a4 all stock with a bunch of miles about 170thousand and would it make a differnce from 5100 to 5800 rpms i stopped once i got around 5100 and if i do have a speed limiter is there any way to remove it or am i stuck with it. Thanks

The speed limiter can be changed by reprogramming the PCM.

What gear were you in? With 3.23 gears, a 4L60E would be at 120mph at 5,100rpm in 3rd gear. At 5,800rpm it would be at 136mph. The stock LT1's were capable of 156mph top speed. Obviously, you'd have to be in overdrive, and at about 4,800rpm.

Not recommended for the street..... would be unfortunate for an innocent motorist or pedestrian to be killed.
