Where to buy Opti? Maybe sticky this

Ok so I have no clue where to buy a new opti. I seen the ones on ebay but have read a huge thread in here with more people saying their garbage then good.
This is for the one that is black where the oem is brown.

Then theres another seller on ebay people speak good of but he rarely has the opti for my car (93).

Autozone said they dont even have a list for it or anything, pep boys calls it a distributor so Im not sure its even the right part and at $250 that seems to cheap, they would also have to order it and the wwarehouse is out so who knows how long that would take just to get the wrong part possibly.

How about a dealer , I know a pretty big dealership locally but how are they on pricing? Is there some website that sells OEM opti's like straight from GM?

So what does everyone think? Get it from ebay, dealer, am I asking for the wrong thing at autozone, pep boys, got murrays here too but havent called them.

Thanks

The Optispark is a "distributor".

Dealers will charge you full list price.... probably over $600. Have you taken the time to look at the discount sources that Shoebox lists for genuine GM parts? Shoebox also has the correct part numbers, so you can avoid an error.

We don't need a "sticky" for this.... its way too easy to find the info with a "search".

It's highly unlikely that this will be stickied, so I would suggest doing a search. There is a ton of info available on the optispark, which is your distributor. If you're certain that you need a new one, most people will probably tell you to get a GM replacement from one of the contacts on www.shbox.com.

Well, looks like I was a little late to the party.

Well what if I wanted one now? Cant get one locally? Didnt know if anyone had any experience with getting one locally.
I seen someone post about an autozone opti but I dunno if they really meant it was from autozone or what.

By now, do you mean right now? I guess your decision will depend upon how you value your time. My local Chevy dealer quoted me a price approximately 50% higher than the shbox contacts. For that kind of difference, I would be willing to wait a few days. Not to mention their shipping is affordable, and pretty quick depending upon where you're located. If you're in Michigan, Dal could probably get one to you quicker. If you're only looking for an OEM spec'd replacement, it would probably be wise to avoid anything but the AC/Delco unit.

You also need to be aware that your car will require a non-vented opti, unless it's been modified. You may already know that.

Autozone sells remanufactured units. That is why they are cheaper. The GM opti is all new.

Picked up the autozone unit, got the cap and rotor too since mine was , well 100k on a dizzy cap is about its limit imo.

Paid $160 for the opti and $160 for the cap and rotor + tax.

Put it in and car fired right up on a dead battery just like she used to.

We will see how it works out.

Autozone optis are $320? You could have probably had an authentic GM unit for close to that price, maybe less. I hope it works out for you.

jason cromer told me 345 shipped + 30 (i think) for a core charge.

anything that you don't want to replace again, I would suggest going to the dealer. The odds of your autozone stuff going bad is very good.
