Do you want 3/8"-1/2" to the metal part on the very bottom, or to the screen?

I just rested it on the bottom of the pan which gave the right height to the screen. Never had any problems.

Canton says 1/4 - 3/8" from the bottom of the pan, not sure if its the same with stock pans.

I guess the correct height isn't my question...it's where to measure to.
