Many guys have switched to the trickflow guideplates....and the Isky adjustables are a great choice as well......I ordered some Manely guideplates (from Summit racing) that have a part number for the LT1's , but I haven't personally tried them yet(so I can't really recomend them)....but I do know that Golen Engine Service has been using them for quite a while on their LT1 engine builds and I haven't heard of any issues(like with "some" of the GM plates).......On my Engine, I had "One" of my eight GM guideplates that after several thousand miles started to develop a REAL small wear spot on it.....I think I just got one that had inadaquate heat treating cause after it was replaced, it seems perfect now with no new wear after quite a few more miles.................Joe

SBC plates do not have the correct spacing. Don't use them.

Trickflows working well for me - just checked them at ~800 miles, no hint of wear.

comp 4800 or 4808's. The 4800's are raised but they work fine. Just get the 4808's, it makes adjusting lash easier.

No, the correct GM plates work fine, but some have found sporadic hardness problems.

When I bought my heads from AI I had originally planned to use the GM guideplates. Once I got the guideplates from Summit Racing I noticed they looked different from eachother. Some looked to have been heat treated, others looked as clean as could be. I asked AI about them and they recommended I use thiers. I think they were under $30 shipped to my door. 30 bux was a very small price to pay for piece of mind that the guideplates were not going to litter my new motor with metal shavings.

I started with GMPP ones and after 10K had wear in them so I swapped them for Isky adjustables.

If AI is selling proper spacing ones though I might try that at some point in the future. The Isky's are really nice pieces but the adjustment while in the car was a PITA compared to a normal one piece guideplate.

How do you adjust the iskys? Do you just do it to where they look centered or is it more complicated than that? With an f-body I have no idea how you could see if they are centered on the back 1/2 of the engine since they it is under the cowl.
