No Idle, Runs ROUGH & smoke...

Hey everyone,

Good news = I got my LT1/3rd gen fired up this morning.
Bad news = Its not running well

-It wont idle. While starting, the engine will catch for a split second, but then dies
-If I hold the gas on a little, it will run but extremely rough & smoke comes out the exhaust. And the exhaust smells like fuel.

I am guessing its an ignition problem, but I dont know where to start. Here are some details...

96 LT1
PCMforLess tune
New GM opti w/ MSD cap & rotor
45-50psi of fuel
I dont have a history with the Coil & Coil control module

Any suggestions?

OK I got it. Ended up being a combonation of two things...

MAF & MAP

One of the things I had tried earlier was disconnecting the MAF to rule it out. Then car wouldnt even start with the MAF unplugged. So I replaced the MAP sensor and then tried disconnecting the MAF again... Whala!! The car is running on Speed Density right now... BUT IT RUNS!!! Im am so pumped. I cant wait to get the accessories hooked up & get a new MAF so I can take it out for a spin!!

P.S. Open headers are great!

check plug wire routing. I bought my 97 ta with the same problem and the owner gave up on it.

Ended up being a burnt #5 boot, and 4/6 were crossed. 20 bucks and about an hour's work and she was running like a raped ape.
