Freescan question.

I did a scan and one of the things listed says " start temperarure ". Mine says 32 degrees F when i put the key in and it starts reading data. It stays that way the whole time. Anyone know what this is for and why it reads just above freezing when it 90+ here?

Your car probably has a resistor in the IAT sensor to trick the computer in to thinking that it is taking in colder air than it is. Are you the first owner? If not this is very possible.

It use to have the resistor but i pulled it out when it didn't make an more power at all.

Thats how freescan behaves with our pcms, freescan supports multiple pcms not just fbody pcms I suspect that reading doesnt exist in our pcm and it ends up with the default value of 32 degrees F. (should be 0 C if you leave it in centrigate mode which is the default reading mode so it would naturally default to a value of 0 for a non existant reading) I could be wrong but i've never bothered to check the code.

mrmint69:
Is it possible that when you removed the resistor that a connector pin got pulled back or bent in a way that left the IAT signal either grounded out or open and the ECU is forced to use a safe default?

You guys are over analyzing waay too much. I told you why it was that way already, heres proof.
Line 485 of /freescan/protocols/src/GM1994CamaroZ28Parser.cpp in the function void CGM1994CamaroZ28Parser::ParseMode1_0(unsigned char* buffer, int len) which "Translates the incoming data stream as Mode 1 Msg 0"
m_pSupervisor->m_fStartWaterTemp = 0.0;
IT never even attempts to fetch the coolant start temp, it just sets it to the default value of 0.0 degrees Celsius which in Fahrenheit is... 32.

That may be true about the "coolant start temp" but I believe "mrmint69" and "'94 Bad A Z28" certainly is writing about the Inlet Air Temp (IAT) sensor reading.

Looks to me mrmint is talking about the start temperature reading, 94 bad a z28 is saying the 32 degrees is from him doing the resister mod.

Toss us a screenshot by pressing "print screen" on the keyboard and pasting it into something like MS paint in windows.
