94 formula a4 ran 13.8...now wont run anything faster then 14.7s

what the hell gives?

when i first got this car,it was a turd, wouldnt spin the tires from a standing start, the more i drove it{agressively} within the first hour of owning it,the meaner it got.

i pulled the battery when i got home{trying to fix an issure with the a/c} and after driving it,it pulled harder then it ever had{since id owned it} it would BOIL the tires from a stop, bark into second gear.

this is whats happened,i noticed the cooling fans didnt work,so i temporarily grounded the relays to put both fans on constantly just so it wouldnt over heat.

i drove the car 45 some odd miles one way to the track,waited in line for an hour with the car idling,went through tech inpsection,and imeddiately to the staging lanes,car ran a 14.40 with a HORRIBLE launch{will upload video if ya wanna see}

next pass after heating the tires up,it clicked off a 13.8,i drove back to the staging lanes, but someone spilled fluid on the track,so i parked the car for about an hour with the fans running for about 10 minutes of that time.

my next pass and EVERY OTHER pass after that, was either 14.7s or 14.8s...what the hell gives? car seems to run exactly the same,it does miss a little bit it seems in the 2500-3500 range...but it did it before. it also doesnt shift as hard, and the shifts seem way to high.

i uploaded a few videos of some WOT passes,if they will help...let me know and ill upload them.

car is a stock 94 formy a/4,2.73 gear...100% stock,doesnt even have cai.

13.8 could have been a timing error. What was the MPH on all of the runs?

i beleive it was 101 on the 14.4 pass...

106 on the 13.8 pass

and then dropped into the 94-99 range for ALL of the 14.7 and 14.8 passes.

i honestly dont beleive it was timing error, the car Left harder then it ever had,and pulled HARD,i noticed the difference right away after the car cooled down that it was lacking power.

im asumeing you mean 13.8 on the second pass? 106 and 13.4 is unreal for an lt1 stock. Hell 13.8 is badass. sorry I can't help you with your problem.

i meant 13.8 @ 106 was my second pass.

my first pass was a 14.4x @ 101

it seems to hit the rev limiter now and again before shifting.

well as for the shifting sounds like the trans is going, and the 13.8 @ 106?? thats got to be a track time problem because the 13.8 @ 106 is to fast for a all stock a4 car with 2.73s, as for the 14.7-14.8 that is a little slow for the car but not to far off the fastest my 1995 lt1 a4 2.73 went was 14.4 @96.

you had both fans going constantly?

i dont know about anyone else but i can literrally FEEL the alternator pull on my car when i hit my fan switch and turn on both fans. Add in the fact that you left the fans running with the car off for ten minutes your car was probably struggling to recharge the battery while using a lot of power for spark at WOT.

im starting to think my issues are possibly with the trans as well.

and joelius,i had the car on a battery charger while the fans were on,im not that dumb haha.

the tranny shifts alright, also when the car gets in the higher RPM'S the check gauges light will flicker, and go off once the shift completes to the next gear.

found the issue, car had a PCMFORLESS tune with ungodly high shiftpoints, replaced with stock 94 computer...car ran a 14.0 flat first pass and 13.8x's on every other pass.

funny thing is,i didnt even notice the sticker when i pulled the PCM out of the way to route the power cable for my amplifier's

I have one question... first off, i'm glad you found the fault...

if the car is stock then why does it have a pcmforless tuned pcm?

First, I'm glad to hear you found the problem!

In the future when you’re analyzing your ¼ mile performance (one run versus another), you need to review and compare each incremental ET and MPH in the run (60ft, 330ft, 660ft, 1000ft Etc.).

For example; if your 60ft time is way off normal in a run, you can determine you spun off the line (poor launch) and that in-turn caused the slow ¼ mile ET.
