knock sensor delete

Simple question, even though I know it's probably not wise.

What happens if I run the car with the knock sensor unplugged?

Will it hurt something? Most people I know just delete it in the tune, but I don't wanna get a whole different tune just for that. Thanks.

i don't think you can just unplug it or it may go into limp mode, i think you can wire some resistors to it to trick it into thinking its still connected, do a search

If you unplug the sensor, you will set a trouble code and you will get anywhere from 10°-15° of constant spark retard. Not really something you want to do.

No no no! You NEED the knock sensor. Instead, get an LT4 knock module. Cost about 40 bucks at the dealer.

I have full roller valvetrain and a LOT of lift, sounds like a sewing machine in there, and NO knock retard.

If you don't want the KS, disable it in the PCM software (set KR to 0) but leave it installed. I've run mine that way for years.

Yeah, I'm just going to get a retune and delete it. I knew it couldn't be this easy. The LT4 km just isn't working I guess.

i think someone deleted my knock sensor in the PCM and whenever I need a lot of torque at low rpm's the thing knocks like crazy (sounds like somebody shooting an automatic pellet gun under my hood). pisses me off and it's really a bad deal. i had it at a machanics shop once and he said that it read the knock but did nothing to correct it. I guess I just wonder why would you do this?

The smart thing to do is to determine if it's ture knock or false knock. Use 100 octane race gas, if the knock goes away it's true knock and you need to determine what's wrong (improper tuning, need tune-up, using poor gas). If it's false knock caused my RR's, headers, etc, then tuning out the knock sensor makes sense.

Cause that's what you do if you want to blow your engine, duh. Pulling timing saves the engine. Cancelling Knock Retard... is Retarded.

that's my point why would you do it. what, if any, other ways are there to eliminate false knock (besides LT4 KM)?

Why dont you want the LT4 KM? and a tune can reduce false knock.

There aren't any other ways to eliminate false knock.

LSWHO, thanks for your absolutely pointless comment. Feel free to never post in any thread I start ever again.

well i bought the car with the tune it has now and it will knock like crazy when you demand torque in high gears. the mechanic said it was deleted in the tune cuz it read knock but did nothing about it. i have LT's and RR's so i know i'd get some false knock. when i finally get me a laptop i'm gonna try to start tuning it better. also, i'm not familiar with the lt4 KM what does it look like? who knows i might even have it idk.

it has been doing this sort of thing ever since i brought it home over a year ago.

if my JE's and H-beams were gonna die they would have already

If you hear knock (detonation) "like crazy", it isn't false knock-it's real knock.
