A "random" miss does not happen always

Well if you read my plugs and wires thread chances are you already know my car has started missing randomly.

I bought the car 11k miles ago with 117,016 miles the dealer said he changed the plugs and wires before we bought it (we asked him again yesterday and he said the same), now it sometimes misses the first time I noticed it I pulled out, sort of got on it and you could feel it missing pretty heavily it got up to about 3 grand. Once I put gas in the car it quit doing it, yesterday while I was driving at about 25mph I floored it and it missed a couple times. I have also noticed if I stop the car and just punch the gas it does not burn out at all anymore. Suggestions? I don't think it can be the plugs or wires since there so "new". Im going to buy a fuel filter tonite.

I actually have almost the same thing happening, and I just put in a brand new optispark a couple nights ago (because it finally died and wouldn't restart) so it may not be the optispark because my car is still doing the same thing.

Im in the middle of replacing my opti due to it dying and finally not re-starting. I was told it was the problem and this is obviously why im replacing it. Let me know if you find out what ^your^ real problem is because im going to be very pissed if I install this and find out its not actually the problem. This should fix it but you never know...

My car was missing for almost a whole year now, until just recently. I had the motor rebuilt, with new tranny and rear, and on the new motor the only things that I didnt replace were the injectors and fuel pump fuel filter. well i replaced all of those and it seems to have fixed it. my guess was the injectors.

spray water over the plug wires and optispark and if car acts up then determine if its wires or the optispark

You should try monitoring your fuel pressure while driving the car. Your fuel pump may be on its way out.

Hey just wanted to let you know i fixed mine today, it was the fuel filter. The light went away and the car is running alot better. I was the one that had just replaced the opti also so your problem could be either the filter or opti. Thanks!

i have the same exact problem, however my car is throwing no codes whatsoever. Breaks up every now and then when i get on it and i have a substantial loss of power. I brought it to the dealer and they said my optispark is bad but that might not be the cause of the problem? So i am a little confused by that. Just wondering if anyone from this thread ended up solving their problem yet besides a fuel filter?

I was thinking about that however out of everyone i talked to, they are all telling me it is the optispark because the go so often. How exactly would i check the coils to make sure they are good?

Rather than listening to other people and throwing money at a problem do some diagnosing, optis don't go that. a lot of the people who blaim the opti and end up changing it out 5 times because they got a bad one from the dealer, the problem turns out to lie elsewhere.

To check the coil...

And in the case that is the opti. Here are troubleshooting directions
