Deleting A.I.R. and EGR...Still pass emissions?

Ok..Here's the deal. We pulled the engine out of my '93 Z Saturday. I couldn't get the AIR tubes out of the headers without destroying them. I called my GM dealer today to order new one's, but they've been discontinued

Now I'm contimplating removing the EGR and A.I.R. systems. This car will always be a street car, so it has to pass Marylands "treadmill" emissions. Should this thing pass emissions without these hooked up? I still have the provisions to run a catyletic converter. I'm wondering if the cat will clean it up enough without the A.I.R. and EGR. Fortunately, they don't do visual inspection, so as long as it passes the "sniffer", I'll be fine.

Thanks,
Frank

I have a 93Z that I use to run a ZZ4 cam in that passed emissions with the AIR and EGR turned off in the tune. I ran a converter only and the car would pass with flying colors.

dude, just mount the air pump on the side of the frame and hook the harness to it, sometimes they just want to see an air pump in there to make you pass, they don't have time to look around for a complete system, plus the egr is in the back of the engine underneath the dash, they don't know if it's there or not, you need 3-4 days climbing walls to reach it in there so who's gonna know if it's in there or not
Anyway, I'm here in York, PA, I see ur from maryland, if you need what you distroyed I can help you out, I got a complete 93 setup in my garage that I'm not using. Just e.mail me at adams94zee@aol.com if you want to be on the safe side and put it back on I'm here to help.
Good luck.

Without the EGR, the NOX will be high. Hopefully the converters are strong enough to offset the EGR removal. We've put brand new cats on cars and they still failed the dyno test due to high NOX because the EGR valve was not working.

OK, since I originally posted this, I checked with a buddy who works at the emissions station. Yes, the EGR system is needed to keep NOX down, but pulling timing will help NOX also. I can still leave the EGR system intact, but pull the A.I.R..
I also found out that I qualify for an emissions waiver, because the emissions parts are no longer available from GM. If the car fails, I've just got to show proof the parts have been discontinued.
Thanks for the replies.
