400 horse power

What would be the best way to get 400 hp out of 5.7 lt1 without nitrous or F/I? I am on a budget and would like some info from the pros on this. I have a nitrous kit so just bolting it on I would be close to 400 hp but I would rather go N/A if its not to bad on my wallet. Thanks Nick

If it's bone stock, 4,000 ish for heads and cam with supporting bolt ons. Maybe you could even find someone selling a built engine cheap and swap it in there. If you can do your own work that would be ideal, otherwise that's another 700-1000. good luck

I would be happy with 400 fwhp if not there is always the spray. As for 4,000ish for heads and and cam you must be smokin! Somthing!

You could easilly make 400+ flywheel HP with the LE1 package, and all the supporting mods he has listed:

Depending how far you go with the heads and the supporting mods along with it, the cost can tally up real quick. You have to factor in that it goes beyond the initial cost of the heads and cam, but also other things like fuel injectors, tuning, gasket sets, ect.

By the time you're done with purchasing everything needed to support the heads and cam ,$4,000 actually, sounds a little low .

That's a pretty fair estimate. My heads, cam, injectors, rockers, pushrods, headers, y pipe, ignition parts including opti, LT4 ED timing chain, etc = just about 4k using recommended parts. It's the supporting mods that get you.

If you only want 400 fwhp you can skip some of that, but you will probably regret it - you WILL get used to the power and want more! (Assuming normal testosterone levels)

lol. Yeah as far as "smoking something" I just did heads and cam and a bunch of other junk (bolt on's) because my car was just like yours - mostly stock. After getting all the parts and heads cam package I was at 4,500 and that didn't include the extra 400 that comes up with just about any project you do on these cars. good luck

Isn't a full bolt on LT1 at about 400 flywheel?

lt4 Km $40
hooker long tubes or pacesetters $400ish?

400 fwhp should be doable on the stock heads, you need all the boltons and a good sized cam like the cc306 or gm847, mine goes on the dyno friday so we'll see what it makes...

wooooa, there are a lot of small things here and there you are leaving out, your going to run that cam on the stock springs??? locks/retainers, timing set, guideplates, pushrods, gaskets...

Exactly! It's all the "little" stuff that adds up!

And then there is the "while I have it apart" syndrome!! Figure out what you hope it will cost and double it!
