Electronics Grade IPA shouldn't hurt\degrade anything and will leave no residue.
Tal

edit:Be sure it's Isoprophyl alcohol like 90+% for electronics

I have taking the opti completely apart, the only sensitive parts are the pulse wheel (dont bend it), the sensor and the bering. The sensor is only a pair of LED,s and can be cleaned with compressed air. I have even gone as far as separating the shaft and repacking the bearing, just mke dam sure you mark the orientation of the two parts for eassembly or timing will be off.

I personally do not think the opti is the almighty most hyper sensitve thing that many make it out to be. Once you have it apart it is easy to clean with a degreaser and a brush.
