MAF sensor

I have a 1997 Trans am with a LT1. I was thinking about a aftermarket throttle body and maf sensor. Has anyone had a good hp gain with a aftermarket maf sensor ?

Any other mods other than bolt-ons?

If the answer is no, leave your stock TB and definitely don't even worry about an aftermarket (in most cases useless) MAF.

I see your new here You can update your signature to give the make model and mods of your car. It really helps other people in giving you the best advice for things like the next mod for your car.

Stock MAF is good for a LOT of hp, aftermaket ones have been known to throw the air measurements off. If you don't have any other mod's, upgrading the stock TB will do a whole lot of nothing

That post makes sense but it also doesn't mention anything about giving the computer a chance to relearn its BLM tables between swaps on the dyno. If you swap anything on a dyno that is before the O2 sensors you really should give the computer some time to relearn or your results may have only been temporary.

Since the stock WOT tuning is too rich, you may gain some HP. The recalibration appears to be fairly crude, and the results are not always as large as Granatelli claims, and are not consistant.

Point is, that for about 1/3 of the cost of the Granatelli you could have a mail-order tune that will guarantee you the same 15HP by actually leaning out the PE mode target A/F ratio.

Why spend $300+ for a hit-or-miss system that tricks the PCM, when you can spend $100 for a tune that atually corrects the stock programming prbolems?

The gran maf sensor does actually what Injuneer says it does. I had my 95 firehawk dyno the other day and without the gran maf sensor it pulled 257HP and 303 TQ and the a/f ratio reading of 12.0-11.0 throughout the rpm range which is very rich. I put the gran maf sensor on and it pulled 275HP and 317TQ which is a 18 hp and 14 tq gain at the wheels with the the a/f ratio reading of 13.5-14.0 then back down to 13.5 at the end of the rpm range which according to the guy who dyno my car said that this is very dangerous for a stock car. We waited for about 25 minutes to see if the comp would change anything and it did pretty much the same thing but this time it knocked at 5200 rpm. I am going back in a couple of weeks, to get the car tune to get the a/f ratio down to around 12.5 and to see if he can get me another 5-10 hp with the tune, which he said that he thinks he can. We shall see....
