Intermittant miss firing - 94Z

Guys,

Got a weird problem that may be self induced. My son's 94Z runs okay most of the time but develops what feels like a miss or surging intermittantly. We've had problems with burning plug wires (damn headers!) and he put a copper core wire on for about 100 miles because he was down hard and couldn't get a silicone one. The misfiring started when the copper wire was on one cylinder. Since then have changed the wire back to a silicone based one. Anyone have any advice? Could he have screwed the opti and it is just starting to show up? What else should we check?

Thx, Tom

Please list all info on vehicle like mileage and mods. This will help and how long ago was the opti replaced?

Good point mint69.

94 Z28, ~80K miles, Borla catback, AS&M coated headers, Moroso CAI, Hypertech III programming, 160 stat, Mezeire WP, new opti+plugs+wires less than a year ago and less than 10K miles. We've had to replace about 3 plug wires on the pass side due to burn through from the header heat. Original routing was too close. Like I stated he got in a bind one weekend and couldn't find any cut to length wires except one with a copper core. I did a little web-search regarding use of copper and didn't like what I read and told him to replace it ASAP. Shortly there-after he started noticing some miss-firing and surging. We changed the wire back to silicone core but the surging still exists only not as bad.

Thanks for any help or experience you can provide.

Might be a good idea to do all the wires.

If you have had problems with them burning already, because I have had wires damaged on the inside without showing a burn on the outside.
