Regular Oil vs High Mileage Oil

I got a 95 Z28 with 110,000 on the ticker.

I started using Valvoline 20w50 oil at about 108,000 due to some leaking issues and the engines age.

I then noticed that there is some "75,000 High Mileage Valvoline 20w50" oil.

Would this help my engine at all. Maybe help the seals and all that vs just the normal 20W50, or will it create problems.

Thanks

You will find as many opinions as there are types of oil. If you aren't having any problems with your present oil, then it would probably take a long trial period to determine any difference. With a relatively high-milage vehicle, I would stick with good quality dino oil and change it regularly along with the filter. JMHO

High milage oil is a ripoff IMO. unless you are having problems with your current oil I wouldn't change what works.

Well I was having problems with some white smoke comin out the back.

I was told it was a head gasket, then I was told I was just leaking oil.

I was told to put in a heavier weight oil and so I did, and that pretty much curred the problem for the most part.

So yes its working. I'm just wondering if high mileage stuff would be better in that it would freshen up some of the seals all that and maybe be better than what i have now

as a mechanic I can say that when a seal is damaged enough to leak there is little you can to get it to stop besides replacing it.

Im just saying you shouldn't waste your money. Instead spend an extra few bucks on a high quality oil filter.

Yea

But like i said, the 20W50 oil did real well at solving whatever the problem was.

Its probably just a temporary fix though, but its been good for a couple months so who knows.

I'm just wonderin if theres any negative affects of using a "high mileage" oil.

I thought I heard things like running synthetic oils in high mileage engines is bad, and stuff like that.

Also the engine is apparently "rebuilt" with 15K on it. I dont know if i was lied to or what, with the white smoke and all, but does this have any affect on using high mileage oil since the engine is theoretically 15K miles old...i guess.

Thanks so far guys

"White" smoke generally relates to a head gasket problem, not burning oil.

I don't think there are negative affects from running the high milage oil might make your car faster by making your wallet lighter.

Synthetic oil in a car that burns oil or leaks oil won't hurt it but it will leak and or burn the synthetic oil too. I run synthetic in my 94 Z and my jeep I don't run it in my 89 camaro cause it has over 200K miles on it.

like Injuneer said white smoke isn't oil burning. Blue smoke = oil burning
