valve spring question

valve spring question

does anyone know the max lift from a cam that stock valve springs can handle on a 95 lt-1

You need to replace the springs no matter what lift the cam you choose has. The stock spring pressures are not enough to control a performance cam, and with 105k miles, yours are due to be changed anyways.

Decide on a cam, then we can tell you what springs you need.

The max safe lift = Installed height - coil bind height - desired clearance.

For the stock LT1 springs, that equals 1.780 - 1.260 - 0.060 = 0.460.

Since the exhaust lift of a stock LT1 is 0.460 (a tiny bit different for some of the years), you can see why stock springs need to be replaced for a bigger cam. GM matched the stock stuff pretty carefully.
