I am in the process of putting together a fresh 383 and have a few questions on the hub/balancer.....I ordered a keyed crankshaft hub and i am waiting on it to arrive...I also ordered an ATI Damper...When i received the ATI Damper I noticed that there was a hub that was included....If i use the ATI hub and damper then i don't need the keyed crankshaft hub thats on it's way to me correct? I want to use my supercharger with this engine so will the supercharger crank pulley bolt to the ATI damper or should i use the keyed hub thats on its way with a different damper that can accept the supercharger crank pulley? Any ideas????.....Thanks
You have to use the ATI keyed hub with the ATI damper. You can't bolt the ATI damper to a stock hub.
If you are running a blower off a crank pulley, have the crank AND the hub double keyed, and have the hub reinforced over the outside diameter, to prevent the hub from cracking at the edge of the keyway.
I saw the ATI hubs fail on both George Baxter's 9.0-second Vortech blown LT1, and on Madman's Pro-Charger blown LT1. The problem was solved with the double key, and putting a metal sleeve over the outer diameter of the hub.
