will a cutout ruin an engine? (to prove someone wrong)

ok. My roommate and his 5.slow buddies think that having an open cutout will ruin my engine . I know this is BS but i need to prove it to him. From what ive researched the only problem would be if running open headers or having a cutout on the headers, and the cold air after the car is shutoff could possibly warp the valves....my cutout is wayyy back by the rear axle right before the muffler, but they still say i will ruin it. Anyways, shed some light on the subject please lol. Thanks,
James

These guys are blowing hot air, the cutout will not hurt your engine at all.

People have been racing for decades with open headers. I have no idea where the thought came from that you will burn a valve from running open headers. My only guess is that open headers allow more air and there is the possibility of running lean if the O2's don't correct enough for this. But, usually your 02's are so close to the air that it causes you to run rich anyways. I wouldn't worry about it.

No, it won't ruin your engine. But it will be obnoxiously loud and annoy other people. Kind of the muscle car equivalent of a fart can, though if you only use it at the track that's something else.

I wish I could tell you. I had the engine rebuilt this summer with that cam and just got it broken in before parking it for the season. This spring I will be making a trip to the track and the dyno near my house.

Since 1999, I have had mine capped like 10 times, totalling a few hours.
