Coolant Leak - water pump?

I've got a coolant leak in my new car. I noticed it was up around 240* while driving back home from AutoZone so being **** I turned the heat on and knocked it down to 205-210*

I realilize LT1's run hot and the temp gauge reads hot as it's in the ds head wheras the pcm thermomater is at the water pump. Anyways, I noticed it iwas leaking tonight... Looked underneath and it apperars to be coming from behind the crank pulley (it's dark can't see much)

So anyway, decided not to drive the car, driving my other car tomorrow. Anything I can do? Probably won't get looked at till Saturday-Tuesdayish.

Should I drain the coolant via the radiator petcock?

Sounds like the waterpump is on the way out.

LT1's don't "run hot"

240 is pretty high. If the coolant is leaking out of the water pump weep hole, then you will indeed need to replace it. If you are leaking coolant and it is running hot, I would hold off on driving it unless you want to replace more then just the waterpump.

I've been driving another car, should I be concerned about it leaking on the opti while it is sitting? I was thinking about putting a rag over it or draining the coolant.

heh, operating temperature is probably around 190-210. High fan doesn't kick on till 236.

$100 fix and can be swapped in 30 minutes. Just get her fixed up real quick and call it a day.

All you need is a catchpan and some 9/16" sockets.

you can buy an electric one for less than that. mine just went out and i bought the summit brand ewp. works great. not a real hard deal to do, besides pressing out the old gear. but can be done in a day no problem.
