nice looking accessory arrangement.
Where is the crank damper? Will it bolt onto the underdrive pulley?

i got it from an ebay store(cant remember witch one) for around $70 its made out of high grade aluminum. i had it on the car before the 383 job. it works really well. it takes a lot of weight off. its about the same as the bbk version

Since when does an engine not need a harmonic damper? I've never heard of that. Also, with that big alt pulley and small crank pulley, you sure it's gonna be putting out enough volts? A set of LT headers would probably be right at home on that mill too. Looks nice.

your engine will last longer if you use a harmonic damper. If you don't use one then this will be a good case study in how long the bearings last without a damper.

i was thinking about that. i asked some machanics i know and they said i wouldnt need one if the crank was internally balanced with the pulley. something like a 240sx i had. they are not made with them at all. why? is it because there is more rotating mass on a v8? or just because there is 4 cylinders on each side pulling at it?

Harmonics is why it's there, so not having anything to dampen them will take it's toll. You should probably look into one. I wouldn't imagine the nascar guys run around for 500 miles between 7 and 9 grand without one, and i'm sure there cranks are balanced perfectly. Think you get the picture. ATI makes nice serpentine dampers and in light weight versions also. Check em out. They cost, but their nice units.

i will talk the machanic into puting the stock one back on, its made to fit on the aluminum pulley. i will get the performance one ordered. thanks for the advise. there is one thing that had me rise this question. when my orignal engine blew i put a used engine in and before i got home i could hear a rod knocking. thats the first time i had the pulley put on($2400 down the drain). thats when i had the orignal engine built for the 383. and im hear now. its better to be safe then sorry. it would only take away a few hp anyway.
