gm847 cam too big?

alright...ive searched around, but i cant really find a good answer for this...i plan on getting the LE2 heads...w/ a fully ported intake...and all supporting mods...but i cant decide which cam to go with...i know the LE2 cam would be a good choice but i want the most possible power i can get out of a stock bottom end. i was just wondering if the gm847 type cam would be too big for a stock bottom end? and what cam you guys would go with...thanks a lot

also...do you guys think that LE2 heads will be good? like i said before moneys not a problem...i just want the most power i can get w/o changing the bottom end..thanks

a couple of the faster cam only lt1s run that cam, so i dont know why it would be an issue. its kind of an old lobe design, but it seems to work.

No it won't be too big, it will thump really nice and make good power all the way up.

I run a GM847 on a stock bottom end with CMotorsports stage 2 heads and Kooks longtubes. You can read my initial review here.

In a word--AWESOME.

My advice: get a shiftlight. This cam will keep pulling STRONG past 6K. Currently have my Raptor set at 6100 RPM, and could probably set it higher.

GM847 Cam specs

Works well with stock bottom.
You might need tires, though...

Yes it will work, but will you be willing to rev it to the RPM where its going to shine? 6800rpm's and the stock bottom end dont mix well for long. Look up my buddy 'Grease' on this site. Youll see he ran the GM847 with AI heads and it ran great, but he did end up throwing a rod or two and turning his awesome heads into scrap aluminum.

yeah, thats what i was worried about..i know that cam likes to rev up high...at some point in time i might also spray the car too...maybe like 100-150 shots, so do you guys think i would be better off w/ the gm847, or the cc306?? i know a custom grind would be good...but id really like to get one of those depending on which ones better...thanks

Well I love the cc306 I had 150,000 on my stock bottom end when I put in the cam/heads/intake/t.b./injectors/ign. and some other mods. so far 10,000 miles later at 160,000 I can't complain. I love the lope. I did have to spend quite afew hrs. tuning on my car to get it right from the cam overlap. but once you get it tuned right, plus I have my rev limiter set at 6200 rpm's to hold the stock bottom end together. I know people will say I have my rpm's too low. but Im trying to make my engine hold together until I can afford a forged stroker kit. and some N20. but I think you will like either cam. oh yeah the 306 really comes alive around 3500 rpm's...since your a m6 the lower rpm's will come alive also.

I must be the lucky one's I've had my 847 for a season now with about 3-4k miles on it with no issues at all and i love it only thing i would of done differently was add heads at the same time so i don't have to tear into the motor anymore.

A shift light is defently recommended i have mine set @6800 rpms and it will pull all the way up that high.

My E.t's are below my RWHP #'s were 347/352 with the cam and the basic bolt on's no e-water pump, no true duals and no dyno tuning, just a mail order from Ion.
