Spun a cam bearing...

Well i found out why i lost oil pressure. Spun the #2 cam bearing BAD. Cam is toast after 600miles. Oh well now is a good time to beef up everything.

So, you just installed a new cam 600 miles ago then? What cam did you go with? Who did the install? Either it sounds like the motor got some dirt/crap in it from the install or it just couldn't take the abuse (higher rpms) due to being an older high-mileaged motor. I'm guessing your LT1 had a lot miles on it? Usually, that is what causes them to spin cam bearings from everything I've heard...

Rather than mess with that on my 113,000 mile '95 Z28, I'm just going to do the upgraded cam/heads when I rebuild the entire motor to a beefed up 355 next year...

Sorry about that and good luck,

Mike

Well i had the cc306 in it for about 5k miles then went to the 847... But my pushrods destroyed my guideplates for some reason and i think the metal from that is what got to the bearings. The new cam had 600miles on it. The motor had 120k on it.

If the bearings got any $hit in them like you just described, then I almost guarantee that is why they went south...

Just curious though, why did you get rid of the 306 for the 847? That doesn't sound worth the trouble at all...

Good luck with your rebuild though...

I was going to go with a custom cam but the custom specs cammotion gave me were the same as the 847 so i went with that... Just because. lol I did pick up what i lost from switching to the 12bolt though.
