Re: my v6 runs rough

The 3.8 V6 in these cars (97-02) has 3 coils, 1 for every 2 plugs.

Is the car throwing codes? How does he know the coil is bad?

As for replacement, its a matter of unbolting the old one and bolting the new one down. They are pretty easy to get to and work on, right on the top of the driverside valve cover.

I think stock replacements run about $35 or so.

They usually say if 1 goes just replace them all. You can get good performance ones from ac delco or jegs or msd for like $45 each.

yeah he checked at autozone it was throwing codes.

he said he can buy 3 for like 90 bucks....apparently that's too expensive.
so.,...he needs to save up.

Re: my v6 runs rough

Don't spend the money on aftermarket coils - it's a waste. AC Delco coils are perfectly good, and cheaper.

Coils are about $20 a coil. V6's take 3, check haynes for firing order / wiring order.
