Code 36
Code 36
Hey, I just got a cable and I scanned it with FreeScan. After running the engine for 20 mins and revving it a little i finally got it to spit out a code. It said CODE 36 High-Res Failure. The following link is to a zip file that contains different screenshots of freescan screenshots. The files ending in 2 are after the error code appeared and the others without a 2 are before the error code appeared.

I'm guessing its my opti, if so is there an install guide somewhere? The one on Brent's page seems to be a broken link.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Code 36
hey, i just found that guide before coming back to the board. lol but anyways I started the removal of everything, im having trouble taking the pulley off, i even have a pulley puller with 3 toes but it doesnt seem to fit onto it. do you know of the correct size of this tool for this application?
Re: Code 36
A 36 code does not automatically mean the opti is dead. Several things can and do force a 36 code not the least of which is wiring or connector issues. Many people have issues with the 4 pin connector either at the opti or the one on the same harness about 2 feet from the opti. Since there are 3 connectors and several feet of wire between the opti and the PCM, I would check those very carefully for problems. In addition, any mechanic with a Snap-on Vantage or Modis can check the signal in question to see what it looks like in less than 10 minutes.
Second, the crank hub does not need to come off to get the opti off. If you remove the bolts that bolt the pulley on, the hub will stay on the crank and you do not need a puller of any kind.

Re: Code 36
anyways I forgot to metion my ex-mechanic, was trying to find an oil leak and pressure washed the engine....... after that it ran like sh**. I checked all the connections and their fine, so is it definately the opti? By the way, I have everything out around it already.
