Oil/ residue in between Driver side head and Block

Oil/ residue in between Driver side head and Block
I was working under the car today and noticed that there is oil, at least that is what it looks like, coming out of the gap between the head and the block. It is only by cylinder 1 and cylinder 7, the front and rear cylinders on the driver's side. Is this a head gasket problem or worse?

There is no oil above the head though so it is not the valve cover gasket. The leak is coming straight out of the crack from the head to the block.
