Disabling DRL and Auto Headlights

found a good how too on this..
im pretty sh¡tty with wires and electrical so this is a big help.

Disabling the Day Running lights and the Auto Headlight on feature is quite an easy mod and can be reversed just as easy. This mod takes approx. 10 min. and all the tools needed are a socket set.

1. Lift the trim plate from around the radio and climate control panel. No tools are needed as it is held on by pressure clips. Set it aside.
2. Take out the four hex screws holding in the radio in. (Note) You don’t need to disconnect the battery for this operation BUT if you do, make sure you know the code for your radio if it is enabled. You will need it to ensure your radio operates after putting it back in.
3. Move the radio aside and look into the dash. In the upper right corner on the firewall you will see a small black box with two wire harnesses attached to it (about the size of a pack of camels).
4. Lift the box in an upward motion, it’s on a slide clip. Bring the box out of the dash, there is plenty of wire to manage easily. Disconnect the wire harness with the BLUE wire in it, just let it hang out of the way. THAT’S IT!
5. Re-install the wire box, radio and faceplate.

im gonna do this tommorw.

I can do the mod for you when we put your halos in . I do it the oem way by soldering the terminals inside that little black box . The us models have this done from the factory . Auto headlamps lick nutz

Edit: Fixed horrible spelling

I pulled the connector from the daylight sensor (next to the alarm LED) and put a small 'U' shaped .040" lockwire jumper across the terminals of the connector, then taped the connector out of the way. This disables the auto HL but leaves the DRLs intact. [No soldering required]

Thumbs up

Hey guys thought I would share my 2 cents on going about this drl problem. As you all know the gm cars have a littlr eye like on the top of the dash right?Well I pulled mine up from the top-no need to break out any tools, just grab it with your fingers & pull up.Then when it comes up it will have 2 wires attached to it.Undo the lense cover[plastic piecs you see from top of dash],it seperates from that little blue light pu thing by simply giving it a turn[like a turn signal bulb]Dont lett the 2 wires fall back in the "hole".Now open up the hole of the plastic lense cover w a drill or small file-about double the size as how it was,so now the drl are way less sensitive, but they still come on at dark[cause the hole 's bigger it lets in more light to the sensor]Ive done this on all my late model Camaro's & Vetts & it's the shat!

i've done this. there is one small drawback to this method: the ignition has to be off in order to pop the rear hatch. this is a result of the BRAKE light being disabled after this mod. so, since the car does not know that the parking brake is set, it won't let you pop the hatch until the car is turned off.

the thing i dont get is, why do your camaro guys care wether or not you have auto head lights? its not like you have your headlights pop up annoyingly like the bird ones. you wont even know that there on. and personally i love the way the f bodies look with the yellow drls from far away.

i want to get rid of the drl's cause it looks tacky, imo.

i want to get rid of the auto headlight cause when i get my halos installed i can have it on with just the foglights and parkign lights..
and not the headlights. obviously when it gets dark i will use the headlights.. but when its not THAT dark i can have just my halos on. the auto headlight function seems to be pretty sensitive.

get it?
