400 Pontiac Crank?

Can you use the 400 Pontiac crank in the LT1 for a poormans 383? Me and a friend were talking about this and I am pretty sure you can. Thanks

Nope, different bearing spacing.......Your thinking of a Chevy 400. It's only 3.75" stroke as opposed to 3.48". You can pick up a good cast replacment for a couple of hundred bucks. Check out summit or jegs.

Are you trying to incorporate a used 400 crank in a rebuild. That doesn't seem like a good idea. Why not just get the full 383 rebuild kit from summit or jeg's like mentioned?

The Poncho 400 is way different, wont even set in the saddles.

You'll need a chevy 400 crank, or aftermarket derivitive ,i.e. Eagle, scat, cola, etc. etc.

The only real poormans 383 is the scat or Eagle cast steel cranks. To balance thos cranks with stock balancer and flywheel doesnt take much, unlike the factory 400 crank, Ive seen a factory 400 crank take a good 600$ to put into a 350 block and be internally balanced.

I had no intentions of doing this I was just wondering if it could be done. I remember someone telling me this.
