How long will the as&m coating last?

Will the ceramic coating on the as&m headers last about as long as a jet-hot coating.I read somewhere that the ceramic coating will only last about a year. I dont think this is true, but Im sure somebody knows.

He he......

The headers on mine are fine. The Y-Pipe is another story. Rusted all to hell.

Of course, I was putting ice bags on the intake manifold at the track. But still, it shouldn't have rusted in a year.

Aparrently they're not coated in the inside. I'd still go for them though.

How do you ceramic coat a catylic converter on the inside?

I just bought a set of AS&M's that were sold as "they've been on the car for a long time". The headers and y-pipe all look great. I'm actually suprised.

Obviously I'll be pressurewashing them before installation, but they look pretty good, and the coating isn't scratched, chipped or flaked off in any spot. Your milage may vary though.

BTW,
There is NO way there headers are less than a year old... closer to 4 or 5. I'd guess it depends on how well the piece is prepped and who you get to do it. (the less than 1 year probably applies to Jet Hot coating specificly hear MORE than a few complaints over the past years on this board).

If you do get them re-coated, you might want to give Swain a call... they do killer ceramic stuff and really ARE the leaders in ceramic coatings.

I think if you look into it, you will find that the Jet Hot, HPC (AS&M), Airborn and Paul Barry coatings are all "cera-metallic" coatings. The Swain is a little different.

I've got a set of AS&M's I bought used 4 years ago. They were used for more than 2 years before that in a very high HP 383/blower car. They still look decent after a total of 6 years... no rust, no flaking. A small discoloration where the #1 tube has bounced off the steering shaft a few times , and a small zit where an EGR bung was added AFTER they were coated, but otherwise they look good. Not the bright satin-aluminum appearance they had when new.... just "good".
