how hard is it replace egr
I have a ses light and the autozone computer says its the egr valve.are they expensive? what about changing one out? i change my oil and other than that i dont do any work on my car.also i heard there was a recall on them but the local chev dealer says there isnt one
I had my EGR valve replaced at no charge on my 97 about two years ago under a recall notice I received. EGR is part of the emmissions system so I'm pretty sure they have to replace it up to 100k miles if it goes bad. Maybe check with another dealer.
As long as they have the policy numbers, they shouldn't give you any hassle. When I got mine replaced, they never heard of it until I gave them the policy number. It wasn't really a recall that's why most of the dealers never heard of it.
If you got a new EGR valve, it'll come with an EGR gasket. So I'm not sure why you would need RTV.
Edit-Unless you cleaned out your EGR and reuse it.

so did they just replace it or do they just check it and see if its bad? cause knowing this dealer they will just look at it and say its fine.by the way what is rtv?

They replaced it in my case. After the header install, I replaced it twiced myself (headers were the cause, didn't realized it). I finally said screw it and did an !EGR.
RTV=Room Temperature Vulcanizing (ie silicone that doesn't require heat to cure)
