Well the 160 stat will do nothing really if you dont have some way to control the fans. The hpp lets you turn on the fans at lower temps with the new stat. You could also buy slp manual fan switch but you would need one or the other or don't bother with that stat.

But like a billion people have 160's without the PPG.
confussion...

Thought the 160's worked by turning the fans on at 160 instead of 210. Isn't that a built in feature of the Thermostats design? Isn't the advantage of the PPG just to turn the fans on before the 210point? Won't it happen already with the 160 in there?

Not completely true. Your car will run cooler while cruising with the lower thermostat. It will heat up in traffic just the same as before, though. That is why you would want to have lower fan ON temps or a manual fan switch.

The thermostat has nothing to do with the fans. It simply keeps the coolant from circulating through the cooling system until the coolant reaches 160degF. Then it opens and allows the coolant to circulate and is no different than the stock 180degF 'stat.

The fan on/off temps are controlled based on the coolant temp sensor in the water pump housing, and a table of temperatures in the PCM. Adding a 160deg 'stat simply allows the coolant to go down as low as 160degF before it closes the flow off. But if you are stuck in traffic, your coolant will still go to 226degF before the 1st fan comes on and 235degF before the 2nd fan comes on.

The real benefit in the cooler t'stat is the ability to reset the fan on/off temps for a lower coolant temp, and crank in a few degrees extra timing.

fooled me I thought the thermo was like a starting signal to turn the fans on at a certain point.
