Whoops! I think i just ruined my MAP SENSOR!!!

Is there a diaphragm inside of the sensor, in the tube that goes in the intake?? The one with the accordion gasket around it.

I used a paper clip to clean out some carbon and I might have punctured something. Feels like it.

Reinstalled it then...

Now car won't start!!!

Cool

I know that the gasket does have to seal tightly.Check the connector plug(wiggle the wires around),and see if this helps.

The MAP sensor is essentially a "strain gauge".... a very thin metal diaphragm changes resistance as it deforms from the pressure (or vacuum). That resistance is used in a Wheatstone bridge circuit to provide the output signal. Why would you stick anything in it?

Also, check the harness connector. From my experience, they get extremely brittle and fall apart, giving a bad connection and an intermittent reading.
