Cool P/N for pinion gear shaft (94 M6 3.42)?

Tried calling a local dealership... I honestly dont think the guy knew what I was talking about. But anyway, I am looking for the part number for the pinion gear shaft on a 1994 Z28 with M6 trans and 3.42 gears.

Thanks much

pinion gear shaft??? you mean the pinion gear? it's all one piece.... If you're thinking the "shaft" is bad... you need a new gearset.. it's part of the pinion gear.. or atleast that's what I think you're trying to say...

Doesn't the pinion gear shaft have the pinion gear attached to the end of it. You can't buy a pinion gear seperately. The ring and pinion come as a matched set. Just like bearings, they're matched to the race.

That's kinda what I've always known it as... or as the axle retainer shaft, something along those lines...

I mean Pinion gear shaft? Where did that name come from, it has nothing to do with the pinion at all.. it holds the axles outward to retain the c-clips, and thus the axles...

Without it how would you hold in the two other gears in the differential?

Now I don't know the names...

the other 4 spyder gears are held in the diff with that Z shaped spring.. or the springs in the "posi" unit itself.

It is because the gears that are in the differential are known as the differential pinion gears. Most people call them the spider gears or spider gears and side gears.
