Fight with friend: YOU decide!

My friend said there's no way I'll break into the 12s. Here is my set up:

LT4 Hot Cam Kit, AS&M headers, high flow cat, cut out /w flowmasters cat back. pcmforless, TB airfoil, ALP CAI,

Suspension: all BMR- STB, LCAs, PHB, SFCs

It's an M6 with stock gears. What will I run?

Your friend should seek professional help.

Don't blow the tires off at the line and the 12s should be yours.

This is borderline tech anyway so lets not get too carried away with the replies or I'll have to close it

I say "boderline tech" because it is really nearly impossible for people to accurately predict a 1/4 run. Sure, people can get close but there are so many variables that the best thing for you to do is just go to the track and see what happens

If you make the 12's with that motor I think you're going to find that the work that payed off for you the most had to do with suspension, tires and practice.

If you can drive, 12s are yours.

BTW what does your friend drive?

I thought 12s would be really easy with the suspension done?

Aren't people with the hot cam kit running mid 12s with similiar mods?

My friend drives a 96ish Eclipse GSX

With some drag radials and a 1.9 60' you should get into the high 12's...

With the mods in my sig (minus the 3.73) I ran a 13.1@106 w/2.0 60' not realizing I was actually shifting at 5600 the whole time, (Tach is WAY off) which means from the 1/8th mile marker (When I end up going into 4th) to the 1/4 mile marker I only went from 4100-4600 rpms for half the track, which is conserving over 50hp according to my dyno... hence the gear change since then.

So in summary, with a good launch you should have high 12's...

typically those people running mid 12's or better without heads are getting either good traction, or really really good tuning, and at least moderate traction.

Let me put it a different way...

It's been a long time since I used to frag race on a regular basis but I do remember this for certain:

It's fairly easy to get down into the 14's without paying attention to your suspension.

As you get into the 13's your tires start to be pretty important and your suspension almost as much.

Going into the 12's I specifically remember a LOT of guys having to pay a lot more attention to how they set their suspension is set up.

Reason being, keeping the tire flat, on the ground, and preventing spin is VERY important, otherwise all the horsepower in the world won't help you.

Now, if your car already does a very good job of hooking up, you're ahead of the game.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that a lot of folks forget how important the stuff OTHER than the motor is.

HAHAHA! Do you know what an Eclipse GSX is? It is not the typical rice rocket, it is AWD with a turbo. Nothing amazing stock, but much faster than a 17! My buddies with an aftermarket turbo, front mount intercooler, downpipe, exhaust, bov, tunning, etc runs 12.2 on tiny little street tires!

Moral to the story. Dont knock what you dont know, unless of course you were jsut exaggerating. In any case, it's all good.

Well, guess that means this topic is closed.

95TA8280, I tried to keep this open for you but as you can see, a couple didn't want to keep it tech related. Sorry.
