Why are religion posts not allowed?

When and why was that rule made?
Seems pretty ridiculous to me. Although there is a good chance it will turn into a flame war, there is a good chance 1/2 the topics in here will turn into a flame war. Should all topics with any opinion be locked from now on, just in case someone may not like what is said?
Wish I woulda heard this rule before Saturday, Jason, Frezza cand I coulda "taken it outside"

Oh come on Roger. Religious posts practically beg for a flame-fest.
Too many zealots on both sides of the argument. And too many of them are very closed minded and thin skinned.

Oops... I think I just started another religios flame-fest.

Unless i'm tired, I like them. It makes some members use their brain. A lot of great points and arguments are made in the process. Its always a colorful discussion!

Sometimes we need discussion. If you don't want to see a conversation about religon, click the 'back' button on your browser!

whoa, i thought i broke the CZ28

Anyway, you are guaranteed a flame war if you say mustangs are better than camaros, but they arent locked unless they get out of hand. So it's ok to start controversy over something that means nothing, but if it is about something some people really care about, you cant discuss it?

For the same reason posts about racism and other controversial subjects are not generally accepted. Because they cause too much controversy, which inevitably leads to people saying nasty things, which turns into physical threats, never ending flame wars and my and Frezza's e-mail boxes being flooded with complaints from one side or the other. This has proven to be true 99% of the time, so years ago we decided to just eliminate the problem at the source. Not too hard to undertand and appreciate. Nor it is open for debate.

There are better places to argue about religion than this site. A bar, a shooting gallery, an archery club, a hockey game...
