It doesn't matter if you hit the little QR button -- you'll get the error either way. If you hit Quote or Go Advanced (i.e. reply in a non-quick manner), you'll still get the error, but you'll also have a field where you can knock off a few characters.

Furthermore, knocking off characters on the reply page doesn't actually edit the title as expected. In my reply, I removed one of the "very"s, but in the actual displayed title, they're all still there and the title is truncated.

It's not the length of the POST, it's the length of the TITLE.
