Any chance of this happening?

Re: Site Video Embed System Suggestions Thread

This is why I hate the new pop up video system:

Name: popupvidssuckadick.png
Views: 34
Size: 108.6 KB

When I click close, a huge black box stays on the screen.

Win 7, IE8.

Maybe you should try disabling your AD BLOCKER.

oops...sorry about that.

I didn't set it up for this site. The ads here aren't too bad - and I still saw the banner one up top.

Anyway, it goes away when I disable it, but it takes way too long to go away.

I hate this setup so much that I've stopped watching embedded videos on this site. If it isn't a link to an outside site, I'll just have to skip the video.

Re: Site Video Embed System Suggestions Thread

yup. I don't watch videos on this site either.

Maybe if the video window was bigger than the picture it'd be worth it...however in its current form forget about it.

if we paste a link to the video it embeds it

Re: Site Video Embed System Suggestions Thread

Sometimes when people post exhaust videos I'll hit play and listen to them as I go through the thread and read replies and also start writing out my reply in the quick reply box. The new "system" does not really allow for that.

Obviously minimizing my (the user's) mouse clicks to open the video and allow for that (even if it's just the ability to click the YouTube link and open it in a new tab) would be beneficial and still allowing the users to visit the site. You talk about wanting to keep the user on the site, but I feel the process contradicts that, at least in my case.

Re: Site Video Embed System Suggestions Thread

I came across a thread that this worked well in.

People posted all the SAME kind of videos in the thread and I didn't have to open multiple videos, it was nice to just scroll through them.....

this again. Some videos dont need to be watched, they are just there for the sound, and its annoying I cant do anything else while im playing it.

That works ok kinda... the only problem is I usually like to see what peoples comments are with the videos they are posting...

can we PLEASE have a site wide vote whether to keep it or not? I would rather just have the link like before... I really think we would vote to do away with it...

Re: Site Video Embed System Suggestions Thread

If we didn't make this clear before, let me try now.
  1. All suggestions in this thread are duly noted.
  2. We are working on it.
  3. We promise!
Thanks!

Yea, positive feedback.

Will try to preserve this in the next iteration.

Looking at the video flow so far, this type of video (exhaust) would appear to be an exception.

We could do a true pop up (i.e. the video pops up in a new browser window) and you would then be able to browse other pages in the original thread. This may cause browser issues with people who have pop up blockers so I don't think we can use that solution.
