The new calendar

Okay, so I just listened to Podcast #51, and decided to check out the new calendar. I'm really looking forward to having the colors match the CZ28 scheme, because this light-blue-grey on white just doesn't have enough contrast. It's hard to read!

Is there a way to filter events by region/location? I'm obviously not interested in stuff going on in California, but I'd have to click on each event to see the location. I can type in "Michigan" in the search, but that doesn't quite seem to be what I'm looking for.

I know this is a Yahoo!-provided thing, and so you guys probably have very little control over the features, but I want to suggest that they allow you to type in your zip code and choose a search radius from a dropdown, like they have on AutoTrader. I want to see events that are within 100 miles of 48864, for instance.

Better still would be the ability to subscribe to new search results, so that I would get an email or something whenever a new event in my area was coming up.

Can you guys pass that request on to Yahoo? Thanks!

Looks like a cool feature. I'm going to play with it some more. Keep up the good work!

As I mentioned, it doesn't match the site as of the time we recorded the Podcast, but I am actually working on this today. By the time most people see this thread, it will hopefully be changed.

The seach DOES work well, but understand that there are only a couple of sites right now that actually use the system, so results are very limited. That is why there is currently only one event in your search results when you search for "Michigan". When this system gets used by more and more sites, the results will be MUCH better.

You bet! We have little control but seemingly a lot of influence. The folks at Yahoo! are VERY receptive suggestions, and they look for feedback like this. I will definitely send your suggestion on to them, they will appreciate it.

I know that this is just the very beginning of this and we have been working with Yahoo! as much as possible. They have a lot more plans and we will post in the Site News forum when things get updated. Just remember that when you see this calendar on almost every other autmotive site out there, what it became was shaped by this site and suggestions by folks like you.

Looks like a cool feature. I'm going to play with it some more. Keep up the good work!
We will!

I guess I was just using Michigan as an example. I also tried typing in "Lansing", and I got lots of results. It was titled "Event results within 300 miles of Lansing", which is almost what I was looking for -- I just want to be able to specify the search radius.

People don't seem to be very careful about entering their event details. There's an autocross at Gingerman Raceway, which is near Holland, MI, but it's listed as being in Massachusetts. And there's another autocross at Waterford Hills in Clarkston, MI, but it's listed as being in Illinois.

Did we mention this is in BETA? I will let the Yahoo team know.
