Video of Dale Jr. as Camaro test driver from CNBC documentary.
As a NASCAR hater I laughed when they said they brought him out because he owns a lot of Camaros.
GM: Dale, we would like you to come out and test drive our Camaro prototype.
Dale: Great, you want me to push it to the limit, really test it on the track?
GM: Ummm, no, we want the car to be able to turn left AND right. Just compare it to the old cars.
Dale: Oh

Forget Cnbc
I'd never seen this video expose on the INFAMOUS BLACK SUBURBANS! One thing's certain, I'm keeping my yap shut!

Did you also notice that instead of the round fog-light housings, that area looks to be black and squared off on the silver one? Is it just me, or is the hood different on the silver one as well? Could that be our first view of a Z28? Actually, thinking about it, maybe those that were suspecting the "new" Bumblebee to be a Z28 were partially right and our first view of Z28 styling was actually a couple of months ago?

I can say without a shred of doubt that when the car was being developed, if comment like that was even mumbled in passing, it would be investigated thoroughly. If things like that were selectively ignored, the car would have probably been in the showrooms sooner. Chevrolet won't let things like that (along with things like test mule body panels) be something they hope no one notices. Watch the video again, and listen to the words that Ed Welburn uses.
That's why he was driving the car and the car he was driving was a test mule...to take care of things that were mentioned. It was also mentioned that he was among the first to drive it. It must have been early in the mule testing phase.

Yes but DEJ's a racer... and did you see the amount of travel the car needed to negotiate the crests? You know what would happen if the suspension was set up firm?
Where does the guy say that the car does not have enough power???????
I don't remember him saying that anywhere in that clip. The reporter asked the driver about the accelleration; the driver responded that on the V8 they can do better because they don't have all the shift's in place. How does that statement get mutated into the v8 doesn't have enough power????? Furthermore, maybe the starting point was a 5 second 0-60, and he was saying they can do better than that once they settle on the shift points???????

This was VERY early in the testing! SO much has changed and improved from when that video was made. WE aren't sure how long the team has been testing and tuning this car. The body roll...again, the suspension was FAR from complete at that stage. The power...tuning was probably still in beginning stages at that time as well as things like gearing i'm sure. The video with Earnhardt was essentially old compared to what we have seen with pics and videos lately.
Thats pretty awesome! In the 'Vettes Dale Jr proved he could "turn the other way" among looong time ALMS drivers. If you ever listen to the scanner at a NASCAR race (or online) you know he is more picky than a woman!
