Will a touchup work here?
Will a touchup work here?
I have a minor gouge on the edge of my rear panel that has the camaro lettering on it. I am interested in fixing it up. I bought a small can of black duplicolor and asmall can of primer. I also have sandpaper and got some glazing spot putty. How do i properly touch this up and does duplicolor stay on well? It doesnt need to be a 100% perfect match because the area is pretty small i just want it to be painted instead of white fiberglass.
I was thinking remove the panel, sand it down nice and clean it and then get some putty in there to retain original shape, wetsand w/ 400, put on the primer, and then put on a color coat. I would just do that spot and mask the rest, would my method work? does anyone have any tips /hints?

Re: Will a touchup work here?
I'll pass along a tip that I got from a bud whose family owns an auto paint store - depending on how small it is, you can take a hole punch (like you'd use for notebook paper), punch out a small round circle of sandpaper, glue it to a pencil eraser & use that to sand the gouge before priming. Finish w/ touch-up paint, & you're good to go!
I used that tip on my truck to fix a rock chip in an otherwise still-pretty-good paint job, hope it helps.

Well i practice on a small chip on my sideskirt which i didnt care if i messed up or not:
before: http://www.clanbbw.com/publicimg/data/images/door1.JPG
after: http://www.clanbbw.com/publicimg/data/images/door3.JPG (white crap in between is residue from the masking tape glue i dont want to clean until its 100% dry)
It came out pretty well, all i did was sand, prime, and 9 light color coats
Tomorrow i plan to do my back panel:

If you have any tips on how i can repair the fiberglass back to original shape? I have some bondo spot and glazing putty, can i use that to fill in the fiberglass?
I plan to take the panel off, clean it good, use acetone on that spot and fill it in with spot and glazing putty as best as i can. I will then sand, prime, coat and see what happens. Does anyone know how i can fix my light thats got a scratch on it in that picture. It is a small scratch that can be polished out, i just dont know how.
