White leather seat restoration

I just passed the 58,000 mile mark on my '97 30th anniversary Z/28, and the white leather seats are starting to show their age. The lumbar support on the drivers side has been rubbed to the point that it is almost gray in color, and the rest of the white leather has lost its original brilliance. They look sort of dull and dingy. I've seen some other cars like mine, and some were worse, but there was one that had an interior that looked absolutly brand new. The seats were a gleaming bright white. I have used several different cleaning and conditioning products with varying degrees of satisfaction, but have never achieved the spectacular results I am looking for. Are there any tried and true products available to restore white leather to its original state? Can they be re-dyed or re-colored by the home automotive hobbyist? Any help, hints, thoughts, and/or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

They can be dyed, but its a risky endevor. Usually leather seats are just like a leather jacket, their never like they were when their new. Once there worn their worn. You really cant restore the seat much more than getting a new seat or getting the seat recovered.

Get a plastic bristled brush like 6"x3" make sure the bristles are not TOO stiff. Make a bucket of realy soapy water, dip the brush in there and scrub. It'll get in all of the creases and pores getting all of the dirt out and then wipe the seat off with a towel. Don't let the soap sit too long. Then condition! Towels and leather cleaner just don't get into all the little creases and crevices of the leather, leaving it still looking dirty.

Steel wool sprayed with some mild cleaner and rubbed gently on the leather will get any scuffs or big marks off.

That's the best way I can explain it right now because I don't have much time.

Thanks for getting back to me on this guys. All I've tried so far is leather cleaner(s) applied with a thick terry washcloth, and then wiped down with another terry washcloth rinsed frequently with clear water, and then light conditioning. OK results at best.
I have thought about using a brush that is supposed to be for buffing shoe polish (really fine bristles packed tightly together), but was afraid of soaking the leather with too much cleaner and water... I think I'll try it. As for the dyeing, I wondered if it might not be feasable, but still worth asking. I'll get hot on it this weekend and post my results, the good, the bad, and (hopefully not) the ugly.

Leatherique is highly recommended by many for restoring worn and/or faded leather. www.leatherique.com It's a true restoration product instead of the cleaner/conditioner like most. It's also kinda costly but you don't use it often either.

HTH!
