Whats a good paint job

I have a blue '87 IROC. I want to get a good paint job in Fall '07. I want to keep the same factory color. I'm just wondering how to make sure I get a good quality paint job. What should a good paint job cost approx? What paint to ask for? I'm also concerned with the black area around the headlights. Most IROC's I see repainted have that area the same color as the car. I want to keep it black. Do painters have a problem with getting that area taped of with straight lines or something?

Might be a good idea to get some bids to your specifications locally. When you talk to the paint shop guys you will get an idea of how open-ended your question is. Write up your specs and see what you can get for a price. Probably the best way to do it.

Make sure that you see examples of their work in person, and make sure you're 100% satisfied with it before proceeding.

I agree that you 1, need to see there work and there shop area.2, Sit down and talk to them and listen to what they say about how they do the job. It is amazing all the different approachs body places have.
Price=qaulity...usually, so if price is an issue you may have to hunt around some to find similar qoutes to review

best way to find a good painter is to hang out at car shows and talk to the owners of cars who's paint job you like. If they had a good experience, they will give you the #, if not, well, move to the next car.

Thanks everyone. I have set $3000 for the paint so far. I don't need show quality but I want a very good job. I'll do some interviews soon. Thanks again.
