What can I buy to prevent cracking and the leather from getting hard? And what is a good chrome protector against road salt and hard water?

I use Zaino Z9 and Z10 (surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. ) It's definately some good stuff. The Z9 is the cleaner and the Z10 is the conditioner. The Z10 can also be used on the dashboard if you want. I highly reccommend them.
As for protecting chrome, a good polish and a coat of wax over that will protect them from the elements pretty well. Salt tends to eat them away nomatter what from what I hear (not sure, don't have chrome on my winter vehicles).

Same here.

I even use the Zaino Z9 and Z10 on our new leather furniture inside the house.

I've been very happy with the product!

I will say Leatherique. I have never used it, but apparently were the only vendor around here and we have people always asking for it. I asked one guy if it was any good, he was like "are you kidding?" He said its amazing. They have a cleaner and a conditioner.
