Re: what kind of cover for buffer when removing swirls?

I've found the cheap buffers and bonnets to be less than satisfactory when trying to remove swirls, but I guess it will save your arm a little.

I'd try to find a foam bonnet for it. You may also need something a little stronger than 3M SMR (depending on the condition of your finish).

If you really want to make an improvement in your finish, you might look into a Porter Cable 7424 or 7336 and some foam pads...MUCH better than cheapies or by hand.

If the swirls are from a high speed buffer, use a foam pad. Careful of that little piece the antenna screws onto...itll chew up the pad for you can do anything to stop it. And never leave the antenna on...almost lost an eye doing that! But that is with a high speed, variable speed, buffer. ABout 1800 RPMs work nicely.
