What to clean High Polished rims with?

I just recieved the Boyd Coddington Smoothie II's and want to know what to clean them with and how to protect them. It's high polished. Thanks

If they are clear coated then treat them like a painted surface like your car, if they are not a product like Mother's aluminum polish will work great.

Mother's works great on my rims... they are polished alum as well. Pretty inexpensive as well. It's amazing what a little elbow grease and some mothers can do to a set of rims!

Later,

Mike

i also use mother's because it works good. however, my wheels oxidize within two weeks. i think you may want to wax them after your done if their not clear coated. i have not found a good solution to the oxidizing wheels yet.

What about water spots that won't go away? Should I use the Mother's Polish to clean them also or use something else?

Boyd wheels are all high polished bare metal, they are great wheels but as with any bare metal surface they are succeptable to damage from harsh chemicals, road salt, etc. etc.

It is best to wash them at least once per week with plain car wash and water, DO NOT use the spray on and hose off brake dust removers, they are all acid based and will screw up show car wheels.

After washing and cleaning to remove the brake dust and road grime you will notice sometimes that the wheel maybe has lost a little shine, at this point you will want to polish them with a very, very fine metal polish. Mothers has just come out with a new fine polish for those types of wheels and it called Mothers Billet Polish, you can use that or Blue Magic, or blue tube Wenol.

After you get the shine back with the mild metal polishes you may want to seal off the wheel with what ever polish or wax you protect the rest of your painted surfaces with.

If it sounds like I know a lot about wheels, it is because I do. Over the years I have owned about 8 or 9 different sets of custom polished alum wheels and I currently have a set of 20 inch billets on order for my 96 Impala SS....

Ok thanks alot, yeah I'll probably go look for Mother's Billet polish then. I just bought the regular one for aluminum wheels. Oh and if you know, how do you get rid of water spots? I've washed them already, should I just keep washing them and put more elbow grease into it to get rid of them? Or is there a product that I can use?

I would second the advice to try Mothers Billet Metal polish. I always use it to polish out the water spotting on my wheels and I can use them for mirrors after.

I have just finished painting my Impala rims and have left the lips bare metal and I'm in the process of putting a really nice polish on them. I'm using Mothers and after they are all nice and shiny I'm going to coat the lips with a protectant called Zoops, here is a link to their product http://www.zoops.com/zoopseal.asp

is it ok to use some clear coating on wheels that don't come with a clear coat? i have thought about spraying them down with that clear coat that you can buy in a can but i never knew if that was worth a crap or not. thanks
