Wax question

Well My car was just painted and I got it back today, and it looks great!!! except he painted my chrome tips but anyways...I was talkin to the guy who painted my car and he said I need to wait a week for a wash, and a month for a wax...and his secretary butts in and says, when a month comes up, you should go get some meguiars glaze #9, its the best stuff you can buy, I just smile to myself thinking zaino, zaino, zaino...I cant wait!! then my dad says hes been wanting this $100 doller crap from the internet, he says it makes it look like glass...she laughs and says you cant belive everything you read, trust me meguiars is the best...then some old fart says yes I use meguiars on mine, its the best stuff on the market....I need to convince my dad that this isnt just $100 crap, it would be really helpfull if you guys could show me some pictures of your cars that you have zainoed so that I can show him how good this stuff really is...and if i get it, im going to zaino it and bring it right back to the auto place and say look at this 100 crap from the interent!! and dosnt last 1 week like meguiars!!!!

Oh yeah, You guys always mention those microfiber things, what are they and where can I get them, also where do you get 100% real cotton rags, i heard the ones they sell at pep boys can scratch....what kind of application pads do i need to put on and take off wax??

Well, Meguairs number 9 is made to remove compound scratches, and its not a glaze, Meguiars Glaze is number 7, so it sounds like the shop secretary does not know what the hell he or she is talking about. And also neither product provides much if any protection from the elements, neither will have UV blockers.

Also, you can Zaino the car right now, with in a few days of painting (I am assuming its base coat/clear coat) Zaino is NOT a wax.

Has the car already been wet sanded, compounded, and polished? Does it have any sanding, compounding, or polishing marks on the paint?

I have a black Silverado that I had the tailgate smoothed the other day by moving the handle on the inside and I took my truck down to the shop and in a couple days they called and said it was ready to pick up, my painter who is very knowledgable about modern day paints (he builds custom one off high dollar street rods) said the paint is as dry as its going to get and I could polish it as soon as I get it home.

He also asked me what the heck kind of wax or polish did I have on my truck as my truck was absolutely had the wettest and slickest feeling paint of any vehicle he has ever had in his shop. I explained the Zaino product to him and to him being a painter it made perfect sense for your final finish product not to contain any silicone, waxes, or abrasives. He tol d me to come back and bring him some, I went back in a few days and sold him and another guy who pulled up in a 71 black Vette the whole Zaino set up right there on the parking lot at the body shop.

I used Meguiars for over 10 years and got tired of it washing off when I washed my car forcing me to re wax after each and every wash.

Zaino does not cost 100.00 and is not crap

I will send you some info about towels....

thanks a lot, ill make sure to tell him, I really dont know all that much about my paint, he told me but i forgot, he said that it was dry to the touch, but wet on the inside...i tried to cali car dust it yesterday, it was making sounds like it was scratching...if i go to feel it, it has a gritty feel...

Wet on the inside, man I have heard it all now. Considering how the base coat is totally sealed from the atomsphere by the clear coat, if it aint dry now it aint gonna dry. Base coat and the clear coat should have had a chemical catalyst hardener added to the paint during mixing to make it dry.

And it sounds like your paint is loaded with over spray if you are feeling a gritty feeling which is a major screw up on the painters part if he painted the entire car. If he just painted a panel and got some over spray on some adjacent panels, that is understandable as even when you mask and cover the panels not being painted the over spray has a tendency to work its way under the covering.....

damnit...well I knew there was some overspray, the first thing my brother said when he saw it, "looks like spray paint" None the less, it looks a whole lot better than my defective paint AKA "cancer spots" is what I called it...will it always have a gritty feel to it?? Do you think I would be able to wash it now? polish it now?

The paint will never be right nor wax or Zaino worth a durn if it is covered with over spray, you will either have to clay off the over spray or carry it back to the shop and tell them to color sand, compound, and polish it all over....

Will clay bar help that much??? what would you do?? I don't want to be a dick and tell my dad, look at all this overspray...feel its gritty, i knew this and didnt want to say anything because I would get the "you ungratefull bastard, nothing is ever good enough for you, I think it looks sweet, try driving my truck around everyday!" Then again this is my baby...if I did take it back to the place, what exactley should I say..also another sign of overspray...there are like little **** of paint sticking up...

The ***** of paint sticking up is not over spray, that is dust nibs. Sounds like the entire car needs to be color sanded, cut, compounded, and polished.

Clay bars where originally invented for the purpose of over spray removal.

I would carry it back and have the color sand it, sounds like you have got a lot of trash in the paint (that is what dust nibs are)

Ok ill talk to my dad about this.. I dont think its going to go over good...but when i spend a grand on paint..it should be a little better in my opinion...

Very simple, you ask the painter two things:

1. Was my car color sanded

and

2. If his answer is no, ask him when he is planning on do this

if he says it has already been color sanded tell him you have found some over spray and trash in the paint that needs to be looked at.

You dont just shoot paint on a car, wait for it to dry, and then your done and hand it over to the consumer, all paint jobs will have to be color sanded, cut, compounded and polished to make them right, if he is a pro, he will know this, dont let them pull the wool over your eyes.

Ok here is the paint job that I got...it says Acrylic Enamel, 36 month warranty...reading on, it says I must keep my car in a garage the first night, not to wash it for a week, and not to polish it for a month (30 days)...I think i got a pretty cheap paint job...none the less over spray should not occur on any paint job right? and there should be those dirt nubs right?

Did you get this done at one of those quicky paint places like Maaco or is this a "real" body shop. Did you get two stage base coat/clear coat or is this paint that integrated base/clear that the quicky places like Maaco use?

No paint job "should" include over spray and dirt in the paint...
