Post Washing engine bay...

My engine bay is very dirty and I would really prefer hosing it down over wiping every square inch of it by hand. I've heard that if you get the opti wet, you're basically screwed, so I was thinking, is there a way to cover up or remove the opti so I can wash the engine, then put it back with no harm done? If anyone has tried this, or has any advice or ideas, let me know!

I've been doing this for years...

1. Cover Opti with plastic bag.
2. Set nozzle on hose to "Mist"
3. Lightly mist the engine, avoiding opti area directly
4. Spray simple green on engine("Spray" setting)
5. Mist again with water to rinse
6. Spray on favorite rubber protectant
7. Wipe engine down with a clean towel and remove plastic bag.

Enjoy!

I'm gonna be doing this too. But where is the opti located? Thanks in advance.

I'll add my $.02

Before misting down, warm the engine a little (bag the opti if you have a 94 or older non-vented) and spray it all liberally with watered down Simple Green and let it soak for a while 5-10 minutes.

Then mist/shower it off.

Wipe it all down good and dry.

Then I spray down with Meguiar's Quick Detailer, Harley Gloss, or ??

Wipe that as much as possible and let the other areas dry that you cannot reach.

It's purty now.
