If they are greasy...
i bought some stuff from autozone thats in a purple bottle, it is a degreaser.
same stuff used on chines restaurant's grills
works awesome.
as far as polishing...use a dremel tool which (ironically) I was just looking for on ebay myself ($23 shipped most auctions..) and some polishing bits available at home depot.

Be careful with spraying any kind of in a bottle cleaner on polished metal, you could have a cloudy spot on it that will always be there, you best bet is to buy some simple metal polish like Mothers mag and alum and shine them up by hand.....
