Stupid waterspot question

Did a search, but not quite clear. Someone metioned using white vinegar to remove water spots. Is this on the paint or windows or both? Should I wash the car with Dawn, then rub water spot and then reapply wax. Will the vinegar take off the wax if I dont wash it? Thnx

You can use the vinegar on glass or paint. Let it soak over the spot for a little bit, then lightly buff it off with a clean cotton towel. Don't let it dry on the car though. Sometimes this will work, sometimes it won't, depends on the severity of the water etching. You could try washing with DAWN first, but I doubt it would do much for anything but light surface spotting. Claying is another safe option before moving to harsher chemicals or abrasives. For tough, probably etched spots, I like a paint cleaner. Something like Meguiar's Body Scrub, Meguiar's #9, or 3M SMR, are good choices. And, if the etching is very severe, it may require a compound or even sanding, but this is unlikely.

Thnx. I tried the vinegar on the window and the paint, no change. I will try the clay bar and body scrub. I'm going to try to get a starter kit of Zanio after Christmas.
